## Physical properties of materials

A physical property is any property that is measurable , whose value describes a state of a physical system. Physical properties are often referred to as observables. They are not modal properties. A Quantifiable physical property is called physical quantity. Physical properties are often characterized as intensive and extensive properties.

This section introduces the meaning of each of the following physical properties and, where applicable, their units of measurement. It is likely that the teaching of this and the first topic Mechanical properties of materials will overlap.
